Thanksgiving sprung up on me this year, and I didn’t even have the time to wish you all a happy holiday before being whisked away by my amazing sister (and wonderful cook) and put in front of a Gargantuan meal. So, happy belated Thanksgiving to you all, and welcome back. This week will be short for me, as I get ready to go to New York for a quick visit to family and friends. I’ll also be on a panel about blogs, more about which perhaps a bit later this week. Until then, you can read the usual medley of links, commentary, reviews, rants, and recommendations.
Thanks to a reader at the Temple De Hirsch Sinai Library in Seattle and to the proprietor of the blog himself, I’ve discovered that Kinnblog (which had linked to MG a couple of weeks ago) is the first lit blog in the Hebrew language. It’s run from the offices of Kinneret-Zmora Bitan-Dvir Publishing House in Israel, though it’s independent of the house itself and features articles on local and international literary news.
I couldn’t blog about literary matters because of this, coupled with this, and then of course this, followed by this. Plus, I’m fighting a stomach virus so don’t expect a return to blogging normalcy for a day or two.
Of even the most dedicated bloggers. Expect more of the same for at least a couple of days. The unpacking should be finished, the house cleaned, the laptop fixed, and the blog on track by Monday. The decorating will have to wait a while.
I’ve got a chapter to write, a new book to read, kitchen floors to clean, and it’s a slow news day. Be back soon.
It rains in Portland. A lot. We knew that. We were prepared for that. But nothing could have prepared us for the bleeping blizzard we’ve been experiencing since our arrival here on Sunday. We haven’t been able to leave the house since then, due to the snow, or ice, or both. We’ve depended on the kindness of our neighbors who’ve provided us with food when our pantry turned up only two packs of mac and cheese and a can of guava paste. Fortunately, we’ve been supremely busy with the unpacking and therefore memories of warm winters in California haven’t quite resurfaced yet.
