Poetry Around the World

Poetry International Web is a new forum that showcases the work of poets from seventeen countries: India, China, Zimbabwe, Portugal, Israel, Slovenia, the Netherlands, Germany, Colombia, South Africa, France, Italy, Croatia, Greece, Ukraine, Australia, and Morocco. Each country has its own separate domain within the general banner and lists poets, along with bios and selections from their work. Poems are given in the original language in which they were written, and are accompanied with translation. I just spent the last hour visiting Morocco Poetry section, and have been enjoying the poems there. I was particularly touched that the site listed the late Ahmed Barakat, whom I met briefly while we worked for the same newspaper. There are links to established poets like Mohamed Abu-Talib as well as to younger ones like Touria Majdouline and Abdel-ilah Salhi.
