Moving Pictures

People say L.A. is like a movie and they will get no argument from me. This was one of those spectacular weekends that took me all over the map, warping in and out of diverse neighborhoods to spend quality time with all kinds of interesting people, new friends and old, yet I never came close to leaving Los Angeles. I am not a native Angeleno, but I love this city with the passion of the converted. My travels took me from Los Feliz to Playa del Rey, Long Beach to Koreatown, Cerritos to Culver City. This morning at Union Station, an architectural fusion of Spanish Colonial and Art Deco and one of the most beautiful public spaces in Los Angeles, a film crew was going about the work of manufacturing narratives, which somehow felt ten thousand times less cinematic than blowing kisses at a train as it slowly pulled away from the platform.
