Peachy Labels

Atlanta’s Cobb County school board has placed stickers on science textbooks saying that evolution was a “theory, not a fact.” The action was taken to satisfy challenges by fundamentalist Christian parents and now some other parents are suing, saying the stickers violate the separation of church and state. Mind you, the labels aren’t faulty advertising: evolution is a theory. But if you’re going to choose which theories come with a warning label, then why not quantum theory? The theory of relativity? Or for that matter, the theory that wine turns into blood?
