Fake Readers

It happens to all of us at one point or another, but over in Colorado they’re concerned about a more serious form of “fake reading”:

The concept applies to struggling and advanced readers who may know how to read but do not understand the concepts conveyed by authors. Some of the readers who fall into the category retain information long enough to write papers and pass exams, but they are not building the mental muscles they need to jump the next literary hurdle.

The article has lengthy quotes from a teacher who had to change her strategies when she came across the problem. Worth a look.
