Kleinzahler Profile
Poet August Kleinzahler is unaccustomed to the attention that his eleventh book, Cutty, One Rock, a collection of comic essays about his childhood, has brought him. He’s profiled in this SF Chronicle piece.
Kleinzahler, 55, is a short, sardonic man who looks a bit like the actor William H. Macy, just rounder in his face, with sadder eyes. Sitting in the living room of his Upper Haight flat, overlooking a backyard garden and the N- Judah tracks where they emerge from the Sunset Tunnel, Kleinzahler seems shy – – a tad reluctant to speak about the intimate material uncovered in his book.
But Edward Guthmann gets a few things out of him anyway.
