Movie Adaptations

Melissa Bank’s A Girl’s Guide to Hunting and Fishing will be made into a movie to be directed by Marc Klein, Variety reports. Elsewhere, Mira Nair is already scouting for locations in India for her adaptation of Jhumpa Lahiri’s The Namesake.

Apparently, Nair liked “The Namesake” so much that she shelved plans of making a movie on Homebody/Kabul, a political play by American dramatist Tony Kushner.
“The Namesake” is a study of an Indian-American’s self-realisation of his ancestry, cultural roots and the final resolution of a cultural conflict in the mind.

It’ll be interesting to see how Nair deals with the fact that major life events were glossed over in the book (in favor of long descriptions of settings.)
