More on Zoo

Dan Wickett of emergingwriters.net has written a letter to P&W to call their attention to Neil Azevedo’s contention that the reason he didn’t proceed with the contest is because none of the manuscripts were worth it. Turns out one manuscript was by someone who’d published portions of it in Playboy, Triquarterly, Glimmer Train, Missouri Review, Southern Review, Shenandoah, Gettysburg Review, Night Train, Southwest Review, Antioch Review, and spelunker flophouse. Dan’s letter is quoted in full over at Maud.

Along the same lines, I should mention again that Scott Kaukonen, who also submitted his collection to Zoo, ended up winning the Ohio State University Press Prize for Short Fiction. But maybe Azevedo didn’t like that manuscript either.
