Ladino

I was cleaning my bookmarks when I realized I’d never gotten around to linking to this entry on Ladino over at Languagehat. Ladino is the language spoken by Sephardic Jews whose ancestors were expelled from Spain during the Inquisition, and who fled to other Mediterranean countries, notably Morocco. In Morocco, the language was called Haquitiya and you can hear it on a few music CDs.
Update: Jonathan sends this link to Judeo-Arabic, which is distinct from Haquitiya, and which is also spoken by Moroccan Jews. Music samples here.
