The Bab El Oued neighborhood of Algiers, where terrorists have claimed so many lives in the past few years, is living through yet another tragedy. A flood has claimed the lives of approximately 1,000 people (that’s more people than have died in Afghanistan since we started bombing).

In the middle of much indifference, France and Morocco both stepped up to the plate, offering plane-loads of humanitarian help, while Algerian newspapers are railing against what they claim is their government’s poor handling of the catastrophe. What a dreadful way to begin the Ramadan.

If you would like to help, you can donate online to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (be sure to specify that it is for the Algerian Flood Relief effort in the drop-down menu).
