A friend of mine wrote a long essay about the literary and moral responses to war. It contains a lot of similar and interesting references.

I believe that creativity and introspection helps us all to feel less helpless during times of war and crisis. I’ve felt a HUGE surge in creative energy lately myself - it helps me cope. I’m thankful that while the rest of the world is ugly, at least creativity can still bring about beauty…

Times of war and tragedy can often times bring out the most beautiful forms of creativity. From music to literature and visual arts. I think that it insipres people in ways that happiness cannot.
