<description>I love being able to see photos taken by folks outside the media. Its a fascinating read.

Does the blog validate my criticisms of Bush's handling of post-war Iraq? Yes. Does it also validate my beleif that America's armed forces are trying to do the right thing? Yes.

<description>Salam is right on. (I wonder if he even knows he is a sort of cult figure in the U.S.) National Public Radio talked about him, during the war, which is how I first heard. I'm glad he is blogging again. Definitely can relate to what he says. He has many friends he may never even meet, all over the world.

<description>Here in U.K. Salam Pax's initial post-war blog was published in our daily newspaper (The Guardian) so he's continuing to play a conspicuous international role out of all proportion to his apparent status.
Nevertheless he remains a compelling read. The appeal of his politics is I think his very human mix of uncertainty founded on both positive and negative experiences.Seen from U.K. or U.S. there is also our knowledge that we have guaranteed he'll have much more of the same.
By contrast what is so scary and unattractive about Bush/Cheney and Blair is their total certainty in their own rightness despite very little evidence that their views derive from any deep understanding of the road they've embarked upon.

<description>I go along with Jim. Salam is just too complicated to be faked. This 'global village' thing is getting very heavy, and the filters between peoples are dropping away. Science fiction is too boring; give me reality any day.

<description>Salaam is, as before, problematic. Other bloggers I've read (I can't remember who, it was last night and late) are bringing up the "is he real?" thing with the postwar twist, but I think he is as real as he ever was. His politics are, as usual, impossible to put in a box. His quotable "War sucks big time" is mixed in with justified relief at not having Saddam around anymore. His contempt for religious zealots blends with his obvious disdain for godless capitalism, but the Communists don't inspire him, either. It's so 21st century, it's wonderful. Thanks for asking.
