“Hey, the beard was just so I could look like the singer from Static X! I’m no Muslim, yo.” That’s probably what some inmates would have said. But no more. Religious rights ruling OKs beards for inmates.

Sporadic blogging: A condition likely caused by trying to bite more than one can chew, e.g., working fourteen hour days, taking a class with heavy homework load, travelling, throwing parties for friends who are getting married, etc.
Linkin Park: You seem like nice guys, but could you just shut up? I’m sick of those songs. For the love of God, play something different.
Stupid White Men: That’s the title of the new Michael Moore book, which was delayed for a few months because of the “political climate.” Well, it’s finally in bookstores. Michael Moore’s New Book Due Out
From the Washington Post:
Typically slow to change, academia kicked into high gear to develop new programs after Sept. 11. The University of California at Los Angeles unveiled 50 noncredit seminars on topics from “National Security in the 21st Century” to “Poetry and Loss,” while Washington State University drafted a proposal for a master’s degree in emergency management. Gaithersburg High School announced plans to become the only high school in Maryland to offer Arabic this fall, and several District schools are adopting a curriculum on terrorism.(…) That kind of open-mindedness characterizes much of the Sept. 11 course work. It’s a far cry from the curriculum shakeups of World War II, when educators yanked Wagner, Goethe and German language instruction from classrooms. Today’s academics are vigorously trying to promote understanding of other cultures, including those of the terrorists.
A few weeks ago, Bush wouldn’t hear of applying the Geneva convention to the prisoners at Guantanamo Bay. Now he says he’s changed his mind: Bush Applies Geneva Convention to Taliban Captives Of course, why the convention applies to some prisoners but not others is fuzzy at best.
We watched “Open Your Eyes” again on DVD tonight. I’m so impressed by the director, Alejandro Amenabar (who also composed the score). Why did Tom Cruise have to mess with it? And why did they get rid of the whole mime subplot? I wish they’d stop remaking good movies.
